A blessed but tired greetings to all!”Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from Your presence
And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
And sustain me with a willing spirit.
Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners will be converted to You.” Psalms 51:10-13

While digging potatoes I was meditating on this passage and some thoughts came to mind. Why would David be asking for God to create a clean heart in him? Part of the answer, I believe, comes from the example Christ, the only person who was ever without sin, set before us.

“‘For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak. I know that His commandment is eternal life; therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me.’” John 12:49-50

Jesus’ goal was to fulfill the two greatest commandments, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.'” Deuteronomy 6:5 and Christ said, “‘The second is like it, “YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.” On these two commandments depend the whole Law and the Prophets.’” Matthew 22:39-40 Jesus was obedient to His Father in heaven speaking what His Father told Him to and doing the work that His Father had sent Him to do.

We are to be followers of Christ and by following Him we will do as He does. Jesus loved His Father in heaven and through the infilling and empowering of the Holy Spirit was able to maintain a pure, clean heart. There is much that stems from the heart making it a necessity to maintain a clean heart with the Lord’s help… We can not do this in our own strength but must rely on the Lord to “create in us a clean heart” by His filling and empowering us through His Holy Spirit.

To have pure words to speak to one another we must have a clean heart. But the things that proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and those defile the man.” Matthew 15:18 Also, a key factor is our tongues. This small part of our body may be used for both good or evil and if we can control our tongues (and we just said the words we speak come from he heart) then James says we can control the rest of our body.

“For we all stumble in many ways. If anyone does not stumble in ]what he says, he is a perfect man, able to bridle the whole body as well.” James 3:2

Keep in mind that our thought life can affect our heart as well. Paul wrote some guidance on this when he said we are to take “every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,” “We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,” 2 Corinthians 10:5 Paul also wrote what we should keep our minds and thoughts dwelling on. When our minds are focused on these things it will help keep our hearts clean thus also our speech.

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. Philippians 4:8

David being a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22) cried out to the Lord for himself,
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
Be acceptable in Your sight,
O LORD, my rock and my Redeemer. Psalms 19:14

Later David spoke in the Psalms,
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and a contrite heart, O God, You will not despise.” Psalms 51:17

Let us thank the Lord in everything and pray to the Lord for He hears our prayers and will guard our heart and mind.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

The last part of the passage I was meditating on (Psalms 51:10-13) speaks about both the Lord’s Spirit not being removed and the type of spirit David wants the Lord to give Him. Without the clean heart the Lord’s Spirit cannot dwell in us for He can’t abide with sin. Without His Spirit dwelling in us we can not fulfill all the work and serve the Lord as He desires and has planned for us. Jesus promised to send His Holy Spirit to those who are God’s children and especially John 14:16-28 and 16:5-14 come to mind. As He was preparing to leave this earth He said two things which really stick out to me the first being a promise and prophecy of the future and the second being a command for those who follow Him.

“‘but you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be My witnesses both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and even to the remotest part of the earth.” Acts 1:8
“‘Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’” Matthew 28:19,20

David asked the Lord to ” Restore to me the joy of Your salvation And sustain me with a willing spirit.” If you haven’t made the decision to love the Lord, seek Him and become His child I would encourage you to do so for there is great joy in serving Him. It is easy to become a follower of Christ and be born again. He is also an easy Master to serve, giving His children rest from their wearying load of sin (Matthew 11:28-33) however, you will also need to be ready to make sacrifices in giving up old sinful ways, denying yourself, and following as the Lord leads you doing His will and not your own.

“And He was saying to them all, ‘If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me.'” Luke 9:23 While there is sacrifice our reward in serving the Lord is much greater, an eternal, everlasting reward that no one and nothing can take from us. If you have any questions about how to be saved and start serving the Lord you are welcome to contact our family and ask. It is very simple though. This scripture shows us just how simple it is :
“that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;” Romans 10:9

potatoes2013’s potato digging marathon is now complete! We are rejoicing! However, this also has created a problem… we need help getting the word out that we have new potatoes available for sale now! The Lord blessed us with potatoes this season although the harvest was not excellent, mostly due to my not being able to care for the potatoes as would be ideal this season. There are a lot of smaller potatoes that need to be used as new potatoes. This is where you can come in and help! Please spread the word as all the new potatoes are now on sale!

New potatoes store in the refrigerator for weeks (at least two or three) and if rinsed, dried, placed in a new container and stored in the refrigerator they should keep for a month easily. On hand we have new potatoes dug everywhere from July 1st through July 9th.

cucumbersCheck out our website for pricing. There are super special pricing discounts on large quantities! All produce is available first come first served. Call or e-mail if you would like to reserve some produce!

The cucumbers have also been outdoing themselves this year and are coming on nicely. Lord willing, the heat and drought will break soon so they don’t begin to get bitter. They certainly have been delicious so far!

JenaA note to all horse and equine enthusiasts! Jena is now expanding her natural hoof care practitioner business! Having been certified through the AANHCP and with over three years of experience trimming she has brought dozens of horses back from even severely chronic hoof conditions to beautiful, natural hooves.

Patterning the trim after wild horses, Jena’s style of trimming allows horses to traverse all types of terrain without shoes. Horse shoes restrict the hoof’s natural function of helping pump blood and stimulate circulation through the legs.

Did you know it takes 1 year for the hoof to grow full length from the coronet band to sole of the hoof? By following the natural guidelines of the hoof Jena can tell how much to trim each time. Over the course of about four months you will typically begin to see your equine’s hoof shape change as it goes back to a natural wild equine’s hoof shape with this natural trim.

Diet is also a key factor in maintaining good hooves. Jena can give you some pointers in how to help control the diet of your horse/ equine to better maintain the best possible hooves.

Jena has had many years of experience training horses naturally as well. With practice in training many “horsesonalities” she is able to work with all types of horses. She does request that you already have your horse trained to pick up and hold it’s hooves without a fight.

If you have some horses or know of others with horses which you think might be interested in having their horse’s hooves trimmed naturally please give Jena a call at (620) 330-7553. She will also trim minis, donkeys and mules.

Heads up! Just in case you left a message on my (Farmer Joshua’s) phone which I’ve not returned… Unfortunately I was hurrying along the other evening trying to get ready for an appointment and later couldn’t find my phone. Well, after Jena called my phone and it went straight to voice mail and I hunted all over and couldn’t find it, a thought flitted through my mind… Yep! Sure enough! Very efficiently Mom had run the washing machine in which I’d placed all my clothes after haying and my phone had still been in my pocket. In some ways it was kind of nice not having a cell phone, but if anyone has tried contacting me I may not have received your messages. I do have a new phone now so feel free to call again and Lord willing I’ll be able to answer this time! 620-330-1966

Okra

Along with our potato digging marathon we’ve had to also set up the irrigation systems and begin watering much of the garden. Dad took last week off for a working “vacation” in order to get started on our haying. We have gotten a ways down the road, but are still right in the middle of it! Thankfully last week was cooler so haying wasn’t too hot, but not this week it’s heating back up again!

loose hay

Lord willing with the humidity and heat the Lord is building up a good rain shower for us. We are praying that the rain comes soon as it’s really getting dry!

Better go, but may you have a blessed week!
